Spring Message

Welcome to New Vistas School –

This time of year brings a welcome week-long break as well as lots of academic excitement to NVS:  the Dr. Seuss Read Across America day, the Science Fair, and the Beyond the Walls Upper School trip (this year to Boston AND NYC).  Elementary students are participating in a Roots and Shoots program at Camp Kum-Ba-Yah with mentors from the middle school at James River Day.  Students are so enthusiastic about their accomplishments and contributions – learning CAN be fun.

Can-Do Night May 9 is another event we look forward to as a time when our young people can show off their extra-curricular talents.  This year we have monologues, bands, singers, dancers, and displays ranging from horseback riding prizes to Lego constructions to origami.  We emphasize daily that our focus is not only on each child’s areas of learning weakness; we are responsible for nurturing their strengths and dreams as well.  This evening in celebration of the varied gifts our students possess is a fabulous precursor to Commencement in June.

Lynchburg in Spring is breathtaking; when I drive up to New Vistas and see the rhododendron and azaleas and dogwood it takes my breath away.  But the really exhilarating experience of spring here is enjoying not only what our students have learned, but what they CAN DO.

Please put Commencement June 13, 10 a.m. on your calendar.  Our two graduates will “walk,” and students in the Elementary, Middle, and Upper Schools will be recognized for Academic Achievement, Outstanding Progress, and Citizenship.  We have much to celebrate this spring.

All best,

Charlotte
