Ms. Hall

Hello, my name is Beth Hall and I am a first year teacher at NVS. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching endorsed in Special Education from Randolph College (founded as Randolph-Macon Woman’s College).  Although this is my first year as a teacher, I am no stranger to the New Vistas community. I have worked here as a substitute and student teacher.
This year, I am fortunate enough to work with Ms. Tweedy in the Elementary School.  I teach Reading Comprehension/Spelling, Fundamentals of Composition (FOC), Math, and Social Studies. I also co-teach the Elementary and Middle School Enrichment course Arts and Culture with Mrs. Coppola from the Middle School.

  • In Reading Comprehension, we are concerned with learning reading strategies that help us decode and comprehend our reading. Students will typically read for 15 minutes each night to practice these skills and make reading a part of daily life.
  • In FOC, students learn the fundamentals of sentence structure and the parts of speech. Students learn how to form simple sentences and later build to more complex organizational thoughts (paragraphs and essays). At the most basic level, students strengthen/develop printing, cursive, and creative writing skills.
  • In Math, a variety of visual manipulatives and hands on strategies are utilized to teach the mathematical concepts to students at their current level.
  • In Social Studies, students are offered a broad scope of historical and current events, geographical themes, and political processes.
  • In Art and Culture, students learn about other cultures through their art, history, and various practices (for instance: the Native Americans and the Chinese).  Students also take part in artistic projects that represent something of importance to that culture.

Should parents ever have any questions about what we are covering in class or about their child(ren), please feel free to email or call me.
