Welcome to Mrs. Scrivener’s Classroom
January 2 to 4:
English 9:
After discussion of the major events of 2007, students will discuss their own hopes for achievement and decide upon individual goals, such as a particular piece of writing, that they would like to accomplish this school year.
Students will continue a study of drama, reading a three character play by Chekhov, “The Marriage Proposal.” Homework will consist of journal writing and activities involving dramatic terms, and will be included in student agendas.
Foundations I:
Students will work on expanding sentences through a variety of methods, taking notes and practicing these methods throughout our three day week. Students will also read selections from The Diary of Anne Frank and Anne Frank Remembered, using the Active Reading Process and discussing both content and form of these excerpts. Writing for this week will consist of journal work, expanded sentence practice, and paragraph development. Homework will include journaling (Wednesday) and sentence expansion practice (Thursday); all homework will be recorded in agendas.
Foundations II:
In light of upcoming essay work, students will review and practice writing expanded sentences on Wednesday. During the course of the week, students will read selections from The Diary of Anne Frank and Anne Frank Remembered, using the Active Reading Process and discussing both content and form of these excerpts, which relate to the current readings in The Freedom Writers Diary. In writing, students will continue to research their chosen essay topics and complete an outline.
