Karate section coming soon
In first period, we have been studying written communication. So far this year, the students have studied the various kinds of nouns, how to write sentences in five different patterns, and the active and inactive verb. Now we are moving into adjectives. Currently they are learning how to identify and write articles and descriptive adjectives.
2nd and 5th periods are studying American History from the Pre-Columbian period to the current era.
We are currently studying the American Revolution. Projects for this unit are a RAFT (Role Audience Format Topic) and Biographies of important Revolutionaries. Rubrics and assignment sheets are to go home soon (if there are any questions use the Mail link in the navigation bar to reach me)
In 4th period we have been working on students reading achievements.
We are currently reading a novel called the Floating Island. We are reading a chapter in class and they are to complete the comprehension questions for that chapter for homework. Over the winter break the students are expected to complete the novel (from Friday through Monday they have to read from chapters 26-33) and complete the questions.

Academic Background
I recieved my B.A. in History from Lynchburg College in 2005. However, I still needed to complete a program for teacher licensure. I enrolled in Sweet Briar College's Masters in the Art of Teaching (MAT) program in the summer of 2005 and completed the program in the spring of 2006. In October of the same year, I was invited to join the faculty at New Vistas School where I have been welcomed by Faculty, Staff, Parents, and the students.
Martial Arts Background
I study Shotokan Karate at International Karate Academy under Sensei Goode. There, I recieved my Blackbelt in 1999. I had been a member of the Leadership Team since 1995. After recieving my Blackbelt, I became an Instructor's Assistant and taught classes there until the summer before I left for college in 2001. I am currently studying/reading Bunkai (the application of Karate Kata)and Jujutsu.
